Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Olive Arabic ("Olive Arabic", "we", "us", "our") provides this website and an email waitlist for our upcoming Levantine Arabic learning app. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information collected through this website and the waitlist.

The entity responsible for your personal information is ScopeWise Advisory Pty Ltd ABN 62 698 148 435 trading as Olive Arabic, based in New South Wales, Australia.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers our website and waitlist only. When the Olive Arabic app launches, a separate, more detailed privacy policy will cover app accounts, learning data, AI features and payments.

3. What we collect

  • Information you give us: your email address when you join the waitlist, and any optional details you choose to provide (for example your name, or how you found us).
  • Referral information: if you share or arrive via a referral link, a referral code is generated in your browser and may be recorded in our analytics. We do not currently store referral codes, or link individual signups to a referrer, in our waitlist database.
  • Technical and usage data collected automatically: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and how you interact with the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies and through our analytics tools.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information through the website.

4. How we collect it

  • Directly, when you submit the signup form.
  • Automatically, through privacy-friendly analytics (PostHog) that runs without cookies by default. We do not use advertising pixels such as Meta, TikTok or Google.
  • Through our database provider, Supabase, where waitlist signups are stored. We do not currently use a separate email marketing platform.

5. Why we use your information (and our legal basis)

We use your information to:

  • add you to the waitlist and manage your place in the queue;
  • send you launch updates, early-access invitations and related news about Olive Arabic;
  • operate the referral program;
  • measure and improve the website and our marketing;
  • respond to your enquiries.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are your consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (to run and improve the waitlist and site), and legal obligation where relevant. You can withdraw consent at any time.

6. Marketing emails

We will only email you about Olive Arabic. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Unsubscribing does not remove you from the waitlist unless you ask us to delete your details.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use a small number of essential cookies to make the site work and to remember your cookie choice. Our analytics (PostHog) runs without cookies by default, so no analytics cookies are set unless you accept them through our cookie banner. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, or through your browser settings.

8. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the website and waitlist, acting on our instructions, including:

  • our database and backend provider, Supabase, which stores waitlist signups;
  • our website hosting and content delivery provider, Netlify;
  • our analytics provider, PostHog. We do not use advertising providers.

We may also disclose information if required by law.

9. International data transfers

Olive Arabic is based in Australia. Our waitlist data is stored by Supabase in the Australia region, our analytics provider (PostHog) processes data in the United States, and our hosting provider (Netlify) serves the site through a global content delivery network. Where we transfer data internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected, including appropriate contractual safeguards. Under Australian Privacy Principle 8, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the APPs.

10. How long we keep it

We keep waitlist information until the app launches and for a reasonable period afterwards, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever is earlier. Analytics data is retained according to our providers' standard retention settings.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls and encryption in transit. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • unsubscribe from marketing;
  • object to or restrict certain processing, and request data portability (GDPR);
  • opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights (California/CCPA). We do not sell personal information.

13. Children

This website and waitlist are intended for adults. They are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 through this site.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version, with its "last updated" date, will always be available on this page.
